food rescue organization, helping to feed the nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers
who are struggling to put meals on their tables. We will rescue 66 million

City Harvest is seeking a talented, hands-on, innovative and
experienced Human Resources Director to implement HR strategy directed
by the Chief Human Resources Officer and in partnership with leadership teams
at different levels. This position needs to have a strong foundation as HR
generalist focused on Talent Acquisition, Workforce Development and Employee
Relations. Candidates experienced in Compensation/Benefits and Employee
Relations will also be considered. This position requires an experienced and
highly effective HR professional with a career of increasing scope and
responsibilities in all facets of HR, preferably within a performance-based and
growth oriented, social impact-focused organization.
In addition to excellence in HR administration, the HR Director is
responsible for highly effective recruiting and retention, performance
management, supervisory capacity building, standardized compensation tables, employee
communication and engagement, and consistent application of HR policies and
practices in support of City Harvest’s organizational success and innovation as
a stimulating, diverse team-based work environment consistent with our values,
principles and metrics.
The HR
Director will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and will be
based in City Harvest’s Food Rescue Facility in Long Island City, Queens, NYC.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the CHRO and City Harvest leadership teams at
different levels to address current and future Human Resources needs in meeting
the annual and strategic objectives of City Harvest and its mission
- Develop, manage and streamline organization-wide employee-focused
processes related to the life cycle of City Harvest staff including recruiting
and orientation, retention and engagement, compensation, performance
management, feedback and annual reviews, promotions, and benefits
administration consistent with City Harvest’s mission
- Plan and implement Human Resources initiatives in support of City
Harvest organizational culture, to deliver our objectives, and to attract and
retain excellent staff
- In partnership with the Executive Team and other leadership teams,
develop the capabilities of staff through recruiting and retention of excellent
people, application of a broad range of robust compensation and benefits
strategies, staff training and education, and performance management
- Provide guidance, input, and delivery of education and training tools
- Offer thought leadership on the development of a wide range of hiring
and retention/compensation and benefits strategies
- Lead and support the members of the HR team
- In partnership, the two HR Directors will ensure and measure that City
Harvest staff grow and develop
- Manage the staff’s employment life cycle, create and track metrics, and
improve upon them
- Manage organization-wide HR communications
- Reevaluate and make recommendations to improve the annual merit review,
compensation and promotion process
- In partnership with Finance, research and develop annual benefits
renewals and lead the roll-out of their administration
- Lead creative initiatives aimed at strengthening City Harvest’s culture
and engaging staff with the local community
- Actively participate in senior leadership team meetings
- Develop and track key HR metrics, and create an HR dashboard
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree; advanced
degree in Human Resources preferred
- Commitment to the mission and
values of City Harvest
- 8-12+ years of experience as a
Human Resources professional in organizations with an increasing scope of
responsibility, with 4-6+ years at a Director level
- Significant experience in
workforce development and initiatives
- A proven track record of
excellence in Human Resources administration, designing and driving
organizational change initiatives, innovating and revamping hiring, development
and retention practices, performance management, employee relations and
communications, compensation and benefits and management of HR staff
- Experienced in leading
organizational change initiatives
- Collective Bargaining
experience preferred
- Outstanding influencing,
partnership and negotiation skills with strong ability to build relationships
at all levels of the organization
- Exceptional track record in
evaluating, recruiting, and retaining staff and new hires
- Outstanding ability to listen
and to speak with people at all levels of the organization
