ABOUT KK&P

Karen Karp & Partners (KK&P) is a national consultancy working at the intersection of food, agriculture, and health. We work with non-profits, government agencies, educational institutions, and private sector clients to create more thriving, sustainable, healthy, and equitable food systems and economies. Our work is analytical, data-driven, creative, and strategic, and is fueled by a deep passion for the potential of food system initiatives and enterprises to create opportunity and resiliency. We are committed to dismantling racial and other bias-based inequities in the food system and are actively working to strengthen our approaches for building justice and equity through our work.

ABOUT THE ROLE
KK&P is currently seeking candidates to join our team of freelance Associate Consultants. Associate Consultants work on a project basis, providing research and consulting support to our Senior Consultants on a range of projects. Although KK&P is not currently expanding our team of full-time or part-time staff, successful Associate Consultants are positioned well for growth within the company when opportunities arise. This is a fully remote position.

YOU WILL:

  • Conduct, synthesize, and summarize desk research on a range of topics and from a variety of sources, such as research reports, planning documents, websites, news articles, etc.
  • Support primary qualitative research efforts, which may include conducting and summarizing stakeholder interviews, supporting facilitation or note-taking of focus groups, designing surveys, etc.
  • Support quantitative research and analysis of secondary data sources, such as USDA Ag Census.
  • Creatively and collaboratively contribute to the development of research-backed strategies, recommendations, and deliverables, with the guidance and partnership of Senior Consultants and other project team members.

YOU ARE A GOOD FIT FOR OUR TEAM IF:

  • You have a combination of educational and work experience that has given you strong general understanding of the food system as a whole, and deeper expertise in some specific topic areas (e.g. urban food access, rural economic development, food business operations, etc.).
  • You are deeply curious and motivated to understand how food systems work, and enjoy blending research methods (e.g. farmer interviews and data analysis) to seek answers and deepen your understanding.
  • You are an excellent verbal and written communicator, and can adapt communication styles to meet the needs of different audiences, projects, and formats.
  • You thrive in roles that allow you to engage with a wide range of topics and stakeholders.
  • You are able to work independently, balancing dynamic priorities and communicating with a remote team to ensure successful execution of tasks and projects.
  • You may have other specialized skills that are relevant to our work, such as graphic design, data visualization, GIS mapping, advanced Excel, etc.
