Learning Journeys are guided field tours where participants “unlearn” what they think they may know about the place or subject they are visiting, and, through carefully curated facilitation, build up a new learning of that thing or place together. This creates a lasting impression of what it means to see, understand, and learn, something that professionals rarely allow themselves time for. KK&P has been engaged with PepsiCo on multiple learning journeys in order to inspire a fresh perspective and deepen their thought leadership and internal engagement.

In 2017, KK&P designed and facilitated a two-and-a-half day Learning Journey in Bradenton, Florida that explored the interconnection between natural resource challenges and advancing nutrition in the food and beverage sector. Comprised of in-the-field sessions, a Tropicana plant tour, and roundtable discussions, we raised awareness where there hadn’t been before. The power of Learning Journeys lies also in how the group of attendees is curated. Here we welcomed a variety of stakeholders including nutritionists, food writers, chefs, school food service directors, agronomists, marketers, and R&D professionals.

In 2018, KK&P led PepsiCo leadership on tours of kitchen incubator programs in NYC (Entrepreneur Space and Hot Bread Kitchen) and Boston (CommonWealth Kitchen). This gave executives an opportunity to meet with emerging food entrepreneurs developing ingredient- and nutrition-forward products, and to see, hear, taste, and talk with them about their inspirations and challenges. Following the field tours in each city, entrepreneurs, executives, and a group of influencers gathered for a salon discussion facilitated by Karen Karp.
